LORTET

GROTTES PRÉHISTORIQUES DE LORTET

Slideshow

This site discovered by Edouard Piette in 1873 offered several prehistoric remains including thrusters, harpoons or elaborate bones. The most famous objects remain a meticulously engraved stick of deer and salmon as well as a deer antler where a snake was engraved.

The debris found shows the presence of wolves, deer, bears and reindeer.
Later, in the Middle Ages, the caves of Lortet were developed with residential sites, a chapel and even a castle.
